Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Hello everybody

Well I don’t have much to say or where to begin…

Lately I feel that many of you left my page and not posting comments on my drawings like before, and most of the comments I got are something like (nice – good –

- cool …etc) "No offense" well I really appreciate your comments but it would be better if it's a criticizing comments because they're really helpfull and it's one of the main reasons why I’m here and to become a better artist.

Anyway, I feel that I’m kinda away lately, it’s because I’m really busy with life that’s why I’m not active like I used to be. And I want to apologize because I can’t keep up with you guys, I’m still watching most of your work but I don’t have enough time even to check my own messages, so I’ll try my best to reply on all of your messages and post useful comments on your work too.

Thank you for pointing out the criticism issue. I highly support constructive criticism but most of the comments I receive from you are like "Liked his action pose, brilliant" as well. Such comments can be encouraging and inspiring to do more art. But constructive criticism can make you realize mistakes that you are not aware of.. therefore, you get better in the future.

The source of this problem can be cultural. As Arabs, we like to encourage our fellow Arabs by posting nice comments to their art. even if their art was hideous we still encourage them as sign of respect and brotherhood. But we must know that as artists.. we must be tolerable enough to accept what other people think.

Your right about our culture, and about your drawings....well no offence but I think that all your drawings are more like unfinished or kinda sketches, that's why I don't post criticizing comments under your drawings, but I like your style and you're really good at dynamic poses.

Another problem in criticism is that you never know how the artist would respond to your critique. Only tolerant and open-minded artists can see your critique as a way of improvement. but others may take it as an offence and start a fight.
